If you’re one of the 50 million Americans suffering from a chronic condition such as arthritis or back pain, you may have been prescribed pharmaceutical drugs such as opioids to cope. While opioids are not considered “routine therapy” for chronic pain, opioid use disorder and overdose are becoming increasingly common, claiming the lives of 130 people in the United States daily. Fortunately, CBD, the non-psychoactive component of the hemp plant, is providing an alternative to pharmaceutical drugs for many sufferers of chronic pain. To learn how CBD oil can help with chronic pain, let’s first look at what constitutes chronic pain and how CBD works with the body’s endocannabinoid system.
What Is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is defined as pain felt on most days or every day in the past six months. Of the 50 million Americans who suffer from chronic pain, 20 million admit to experiencing high-impact chronic pain, defined as “limiting life or work activities on most days or every day.” Chronic pain is found to be higher among women and contributes to an estimated $560 billion each year in direct medical costs, lost productivity, and disability programs. Some of the most common forms of chronic pain or diseases associated with chronic pain are rheumatoid arthritis, back pain, heachaches, diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, shingles and AIDS.
How CBD Works in the Body
The body’s endocannabinoid system is responsible for maintaining bodily homeostasis and regulating a variety of processes, including memory, mood, appetite, sleep and pain. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, inhibiting endocannabinoid signaling and increasing endogenous anandamide expression, providing relief from various pathological conditions without intoxicating effects. With powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, CBD targets α3 glycine to minimize neuropathic pain. In addition, CBD may also regulate the perception of pain by affecting the activity of a significant number of other targets in the brain — including non-cannabinoid GPCRs, ion channels and PPARs — while also inhibiting uptake of AEA and weakly inhibiting its hydrolysis by the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase. Unlike opioids, CBD has shown to have a good safety profile, even at higher doses.
Success Stories in Treating Pain With CBD
Several studies have proven CBD to be an effective method of treating pain, including those deemed “difficult to treat,” such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer pain. A study published in the European Journal of Pain showed that when CBD was applied externally to animals with arthritis, pain and inflammation decreased. A study of kidney transplant patients in Uruguay found that two of seven patients experienced total pain improvement when treated with CBD, four had a partial response within 15 days and only one showed no improvement. CBD was well-tolerated by all with no severe adverse effects.
How RESET Works
RESET Bioscience uses advanced nanotechnology to produce a pharmaceutical-grade product with high bioavailability, which means it is absorbed by the body with greater efficiency. With millions of tiny liposomes as its efficient delivery system, RESET Balance offers as much as 80 percent absorption, which is higher than what’s been shown for currently available oils or edibles on the market. If you’ve experienced a loss of sleep in dealing with chronic pain, RESET Balance can also be used to help you sleep better.
