How to Use Hemp Seed Oil for Skin

It is no longer a secret; hemp seed oil is a great product for your skin health. This is why it has become a common topic of study in dermatological research. So how much do you know about the oil and its use for skincare? In this post, we are going to tell you what it is, benefits, and how you can use it.

What is Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil is a product of the hemp plant that is produced through cold pressing its seeds. Notably, you should not confuse it with hemp oil, which refers to all types of oils derived from hemp. In particular, hemp seed oil is often confused with CBD (cannabidiol) oil

Although both CBD and hemp seed oils come from the same plant, they are very different. CBD is derived from the stalk, leaves, and flowers of the hemp plant, while hemp seed oil is only made from seeds. Note that because CBD is an individual cannabinoid, its extraction and production require separation from other hemp compounds.

Another core difference is that hemp seed oil contains many cannabinoids, including CBD. So when you use the hemp seed oil, you could also get the benefits that come from CBD.

The Main Benefits of Hemp Seed Oil

Today, hemp seed oil has become a go-to product to better support skin health. Here are some of the benefits of hemp oil to your skin:

  •     Moisturizing effect

This is one of the core benefits of hemp seed oil. Researchers have demonstrated that oil is a strong moisturizer, helping to keep the skin smooth. Notably, unlike other types of oils, hemp seed oil makes the skin feel tight and natural as opposed to oily.

  •     The oil is a strong antioxidant

The oil contains crucial fatty acids such as linoleic acid and vitamins that help to provide additional skin protection and promote faster cell regeneration that could help to reduce signs of aging.

  •     Anti-inflammatory effect

Hemp seed oil has demonstrated anti-inflammatory benefits when applied on the skin. Recent studies have suggested that omega-3 and omega-6 acids in the oil could work together with the body’s natural systems to better reduce skin inflammation. This is one of the reasons it is suggested as an alternative recommended for conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis.

  •     Moderates skin oil production

One of the main causes of acne in the skin is sebum (skin oil) overproduction. The oil clogs the skin pores resulting in the accumulation of waste in the skin. This is what creates pimples that appear as acne. To help with this problem, the hemp seed oil helps moderate skin oil production so that the skin pores always remain open. This allows the skin to breathe, emit waste, and look naturally healthy.

Can you use hemp seed oil for your skin?

Now that you know the key benefits of using hemp seed oil, we will now turn our focus to suggest how you can use hemp seed oil for your skin.

  •     Rub the oil on the skin to better help dryness

To help achieve better results from the oil, you can rub it directly on dry skin. You can also massage the oil on the affected area and then cover loosely with breathable cloth or wear socks overnight.

  •     Rub on the nails to help strengthen them

If you have brittle nails and cuticles, try applying a little amount of oil on your hand, and massage them firmly. Repeat the process every day until you get the desired results.

  •     Use the hemp seed oil to remove makeup

Put some oil on your hand and rub gently on the area with the makeup. It will dissolve the waxes and oils in the makeup, and leave your skin looking natural.

  •     Steam facial

Using about one tablespoonful of oil, massage your face for a couple of minutes. Then, put a hot (of course not scalding) damp washcloth and place on your face. Repeat as desired, then wash off the face.

  •     Apply directly on areas with acne

Put a small amount of oil on your hand and work it out on the area of the skin with acne.

  •     Take hemp seed oil orally

If a skin condition such as eczema and dermatitis causes too much discomfort when oil is rubbed directly on the skin, try simply taking the hemp seed oil by mouth instead.

Side Effects

Are there any side effects of using hemp seed oil? The main concern that people have about using the oil for skincare is getting high. However, the oil does not have THC, or if it does, it is in minimal quantities. This implies that you will not get high from using the oil.
